Wearable Glucose Monitoring

What Is a CGM Device?

A Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) system is a wearable medical device that continuously measures glucose levels through a small sensor inserted just beneath the skin. Unlike traditional Blood Glucose Monitoring (BGM) systems that require individual blood samples and test strips, CGM devices provide real-time glucose data throughout the wear period.

To keep the sensor securely attached to the body, every CGM system relies on an adhesive solution. Depending on the device design, this may include a primary device patch, which bonds the sensor directly to the skin, and an overlay patch, which is applied over the device to provide additional fixation during extended wear or demanding daily activities.

As CGM technology continues to advance across diabetes management and wearable healthcare applications, adhesive components have become an essential part of overall device design, helping support reliable sensor attachment throughout the intended wear period.

Device Patch

The device patch is the primary adhesive component used to attach a CGM sensor to the skin. As an integral part of the finished wearable device, it is typically developed by the device manufacturer to achieve the required balance of adhesion, comfort, breathability, and wear duration.

Leetoya manufactures custom-converted device patch components with precision die cutting, multilayer lamination, and cleanroom production for OEM medical device programs.

Overlay Patch

Overlay patches are secondary adhesive components applied over an existing CGM device to reinforce fixation after the primary device patch has been installed.

They are commonly used when extended wear duration or challenging daily conditions require extra holding power, helping reduce edge lifting and improve overall device retention.

Overlay patches are widely used for patients with active lifestyles or demanding environments, providing additional confidence during exercise, perspiration, showering, swimming, and prolonged wear cycles while maintaining user comfort.
