What Is a BGM Test Strip?
A practical introduction to the layered disposable strip used by blood glucose meters to collect a blood sample and support glucose measurement.
A blood glucose monitoring test strip is a compact multilayer component engineered to receive a small blood sample, guide it toward a reaction area, and interface with a compatible meter. Its performance depends on the interaction between chemistry, electrode design, fluid pathways, adhesive layers, and precise converting.
Core Function
The strip creates a controlled path from the blood inlet to the sensing zone. Capillary action draws the sample through a defined channel while the reagent and electrode system generate a signal that the meter interprets.
Typical Layered Construction
Common structures may include a printed electrode substrate, spacer adhesive, hydrophilic cover film, protective layers, and release liners used during manufacturing. The exact stack depends on the customer's sensor design and assembly process.
Why Precision Converting Matters
Channel width, inlet geometry, registration, adhesive thickness, and clean edges can influence sample transport and downstream assembly. Die cutting, laminating, slitting, and inspection therefore need to work as one controlled process.
