What Is a Spacer Layer?
Learn how a precision-cut spacer layer creates a controlled capillary channel in BGM strips and other microfluidic diagnostic devices.
A spacer layer is a converted adhesive or film component that separates adjacent layers by a controlled distance. In diagnostic assemblies, its cut geometry often forms the sidewalls of a narrow fluid channel.
Creating a Functional Gap
The spacer prevents the cover film from contacting the sensor substrate across the entire area. The open region left by the die cut becomes a controlled pathway for the sample.
Material and Adhesive Considerations
PET-supported double-sided tapes are often selected for dimensional stability and clean processing. Thickness tolerance, adhesive coat weight, and compatibility with the surrounding stack require project-specific evaluation.
Converting Controls
